How do you choose the right duvet?
What should you look for when buying a duvet?
Is there a nicer feeling than getting into bed at night, slowly warming up under your perfectly fluffy duvet? Whether you like to wrap yourself tightly as in a cocoon, or prefer a light duvet that floats over you like a perfect little cloud: one thing you can't afford is feeling too hot or too cold while lying in bed. This is where a comfortable, quality duvet comes in. But how you choose one that is just right for you?
There’s four things to keep in mind when choosing a duvet:
- Temperature: Do you quickly get warm or cold in bed?
- Personal preferences: Do you like your duvet feather-light or a little heavier?
- Allergies: Are you allergic to dust mites? Or do you occasionally have respiratory problems?
- Size: Which size is perfect for your body type?
Sounds difficult? Don't worry. We'll walk you through all the steps.
Temperature: stay warm and comfy all year long
Do you quickly get warm in bed and like to sleep in the thinnest possible nightwear? Or are you someone who gets into bed wearing three layers of clothing and warm socks?
The heat emitted by a duvet is measured by a number, ranging from 1 to 4.
Duvets with heat class 1
Duvets with heat class 1 are four season duvets. A four season duvet consists of two duvets: a spring/fall duvet and a summer duvet. By tying these together, you end up with a four seasons duvet. Four season duvets are ideal for cold bedrooms, or for people that feel chilly a lot when in bed.
Duvets with heat class 3
Duvets with heat class 3 are spring/fall duvets. These duvets will keep you nice and warm throughout the spring and fall.
Duvets with heat class 4
Duvets with heat class 4 are summer duvets. These duvets are specifically suited for warm summer nights, or for warm bed rooms.
Good to know: All Auping duvets are available in heat classes 1, 3 and 4. With an Auping duvet cover, you will feel nice and comfy all year long.
Personal preferences: a light or heavier duvet?
The feel of a duvet is also an important factor when choosing one that is just right for you. Flully down duvets like Auping Cloud and Auping Nest are both light and airy. Do you prefer a feel that is a little heavier and robust? Then Auping Dew is perfect for you.
Every Auping duvet has its own filling, with its own special character:
Auping Cloud
Auping Cloud is filled with Mazurian goose down. This material is of the highest possible quality and will you keep you warm all year, all the while providing you with the ventilation you need.
Auping Nest
Do you like a down duvet that is even lighter? Auping Nest consists of 90% recyclable goose and duck down. These are naturally isolating materials that ventilate extremely well.
Auping Dew
Auping Dew is filled with a hollow synthetic fibre, made from recyclable polyester. Auping Dew feels a little heavier and more robust than our down duvets. Auping Dew is made from 100% hypoallergenic materials. This makes Auping Dew extra suitable for people that are sensitive to dust mite allergies.
Good to know: all Auping products that use down as a source material are certified according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) or the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).
Allergies: don't let the bed bugs bite
Do you have a house mite allergy or respiratory problems? All Auping duvets are anti-allergenic. Auping down duvets carry the Nomite-label. This is an industry standard that guaranties your Auping duvet will be free of dust mites at all times.
Do you like to regularly wash your duvet? In that case, Auping Dew is perfect for you. Auping Dew is filled with a hypoallergenic, recyclable polyester fibre that is easy to wash.
Which size do I need?
The size of your duvet mainly depends on the length of your body. You can't go wrong with a duvet that is 20cm (about 8 inches) longer than you are. Going by this rule, your body should be handily covered at all times. Your warm feet will thank you.
