General

What is the difference between the old Auping Smart Base and the new one?
The separate Auping Connect module, the box that makes the connection between the bed base and your telephone, is now integrated into the control box under your bed. We have also improved the Mobile Auping Connect app with more insight into personal sleep and snoring behaviour. We provide a better/stable connection through Cloud connectivity. Since we have improved the hardware, the bed motors move more quietly and you can also set several preset preferred positions. We have also developed a new remote control that now uses Bluetooth to connect to the Connect module, just like the app. This remote control is equipped with three additional buttons for using the new memory function without a phone.

What is technically different about the Auping Smart Base?
The CBU5 control is essentially a CBU4 control with one important difference: the Connect module in the CBU5 is integrated into the control box and is no longer a separate box as in the CBU4. Because only one Connect module is needed to operate two controls, there are several versions of CBU5: one with an integrated Connect module (the Hive, white sticker) and two without (the Drone, green sticker, and the expansion kit, yellow sticker). 
The drive of the motors has also been revamped, so that it makes less noise. This also gives us the option of making the motors move more slowly at certain times and therefore even more quietly.

What is the difference between a Hive and a Drone?
The Hive is the main unit of our bed control system. It is located under each single bed, under each 120-140 cm wide bed, and under each double bed. The Connect functionality is integrated into the Hive. A Wi-Fi connection is established with the Auping Cloud via the router in your home.  Your remote controls, as well as iOS and Android devices on which the Auping APP has been installed, can also connect to the Hive via Bluetooth. The Hive not only controls the bed side under which the unit is mounted, but also transmits control commands to the Drone via the sync cable. The Drone unit contains all the electronics to control the half of the bed under which it is mounted. The Drone itself does not connect to the Auping Cloud, the remote controls, or the Android and iOS devices on which the Auping APP has been installed.

With which configurations do you use a Hive or Drone?
Single = 1 mesh base = 1 Hive
Double = 2 mesh bases = 1 Hive + 1 Drone + 1 sync cable
1½ (120-140 cm wide) mesh base = 1 Hive + 1 Expansion kit + 1 sync cable

It does not matter which of the two mesh bases is the Hive. It can serve as both a 2M and a 3M. For example, 2M Hive and 3M Drone. Or vice versa. It doesn’t matter from a functional point of view.

If you and your partner have two different bed bases, 2M and 3M, do you need 2 Hives or also Hive and Drone?
In this case, the Hive/Drone setup still works. The Hive is delivered in the bed base with the most number of motors. The base with fewer motors is controlled by the Drone.
The Hive has a Bluetooth module that communicates with the remote control. The Drone does not have a Bluetooth module. 

If consumers order an upgrade set from our dealer and they have different bed bases, they can only order two of the single bed Smart Base upgrade sets and thus get two Hives. You can just install two Hives as if it were a Hive + Drone. One of the two Hives will then connect to the Cloud, and the other Hive will listen via the synchronisation cable.

What about privacy and internet security?
The Auping Connect app works with a certified and secure protocol so that all data that you send via your phone or tablet is protected.

We think it is important to mention that we have taken extremely strict security measures, which means that it is never possible for Auping to trace sleep data to an individual user. The sleep data in the app is linked by Auping to an anonymous ID. This link ensures that this data can only be viewed by and for the user in relation to the individual login data. So private.
I don't have WiFi, can I still install and use the Auping Connect app?
Unfortunately, you cannot install and/or use the Auping Connect app without WiFi. It is wise to use WiFi, because the smart Base can be provided with updates and improvements in this way.

I can't log in to the app. What should I do?
To use the Auping Connect app, you must create a personal account. After creating your account you will receive a verification code. Enter it to complete the registration process. The verification code is valid for 24 hours.

I forgot my password. How do I request a new one?
If you have forgotten your password, press 'forgot password' in the login screen. Now enter the email address of your personal Auping Connect app account to receive a verification code. Enter this to set a new password. You can then log in to the app.
 

Can Auping Smart Base also be used with 5G Wi-Fi?
After installation, the app can be used via 2.4 GHz.

What are the specifications for using Bluetooth? 
Auping Smart Base uses esp32 wroom 32d. It supports Bluetooth 4.2, so even older phones should work.

Is Auping Smart Base safe?
All Auping beds are CE certified. As an Auping product, Auping Connect is also CE certified. Only adjust the bed, via remote control or the Connect app, when you are sure that no one is near the bed while it is adjusting positions.
With which operating systems can you use the Auping Connect app? 
The app is available for all recent iOS and Android devices. Windows phones or tablets are not supported. 

Can I use Auping Connect with every bed?
Auping Connect can be linked to all motorised adjustable Auping mesh bases that were produced after 2014. In the case of box springs, it is possible to combine the Criade box springs produced after 2014 with the new Original and Kiruna box springs produced in 2017.
An easy check you can do to see if Auping Connect works with your Auping bed is to check if your current bed came with a wireless black remote control. Older motorised adjustable bed and box spring models that do not work with Auping Connect are equipped with a grey remote control. In beds that are operated with the black remote control (excluding the Auping Royal), the current control set can be exchanged for the new Auping CBU5 control set with integrated Connect.
Adjustable bases from other brands cannot be linked to Auping Connect.

Can I operate the Smart Base while my mobile device is in airplane mode?
Yes, because of the communication via Bluetooth, the direct control of the bed can be done in airplane mode. You can set the alarm before bedtime and then put the device in airplane mode. The built-in timer enables these functionalities to remain active even in airplane mode. 

Can I also reset my Auping Smart Base?
On the back of the Hive control box under your bed is a button, which you can press for 10 to 15 seconds to reset the Auping Smart Base (you will hear a long beep when the reset has been performed). After the reset, the remote controls and devices with the Auping Connect app can reconnect. 

Can I use Auping Connect on multiple devices?
Yes, you can use Auping Connect on multiple devices. Up to four devices can be connected to the Hive and Drone control box. In general, these are two remote controls and two phones or tablets.
 

Can Auping Smart Base also be used with 5GHz Wi-Fi?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The Smart Base links to the Auping Connect app with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection.

Note: on some phones, Bluetooth turns off when you turn on airplane mode. You must then turn on Bluetooth manually.


How much power does the control box use in standby mode?
The standby power consumption for both the old (CBU4) and the new control box (CBU5) is less than 0.5W. So, the annual consumption for standby power for each control box is 4.4KWh. This is 8.8KWh of electricity consumption per year for a two-person set.

What is the battery life of the remote?
With normal use, if you adjust the bed several times a day, the batteries can last a year. The remote control switches to standby mode after 10 seconds, unless it continues to detect motion in which case it will then consume more battery. This affects the battery life of the remote control.  

Is the synchronisation cable long enough for a separable bed?
Unfortunately, the cable is not long enough. We are currently designing a synchronisation cable that we can use for all separable Auping beds. 

Which side of the synchronisation cable should I plug into the Hive?
It doesn't matter which side you plug into the Hive control box. The correct connections are always made between the Hive and the Drone and the Hive and the Extension set.
I installed the wrong number of adjustment options during the installation.
This can be changed later in the app. You can use the settings menu to reconfigure your bed type. Tap the icon in the upper right corner of the screen to access the settings and tap ‘Reconfigure bed settings’.
 

Auping Connect App

How do I operate my Auping Smart Base? 
You operate the Auping Smart Base using the remote control supplied, or using the Auping Connect app on a smart device. The app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store.

What functionalities does the Auping Smart Base now have?
The Auping Smart Base enables you to adjust your bed easily using a smartphone or tablet. You can switch quickly between the individual and simultaneous adjustment of two bed bases. The alarm function enables you to set a traditional alarm with sound or to raise the back section when you want to get up. You can now also save several preferred positions, so that your body always gets the support it needs.

Does my current remote control work too?
Unfortunately, the old remote controls no longer work due to the update (CBU5) of our smart bed bases. When you purchase an Auping Smart Base (upgrade set), you will receive new remote controls that go with the new smart bed base. My partner installed the Connect app on their smartphone. Do I always need that specific phone to use my Smart Base?
No; you and your partner can both install the Connect app on your own smartphones and/or tablets and you can personalise the functionalities. You can set your own alarm or anti-snore feature per mobile device, or if you have two adjustable bases, you can choose to set both bed halves synchronously.I don’t have Wi-Fi; can I still install and use Auping Connect?
Unfortunately, without Wi-Fi, you cannot install and/or use Auping Connect app. It is wise to use Wi-Fi because then the Smart Base can be provided with updates and improvements.

Can you preconfigure the Auping Connect app and then do the installation without Wi-Fi?
No. A Wi-Fi connection via your router is required during installation. You must download the app and go through the installation yourself. Updates to the installation are stored in the Cloud and downloaded automatically. The prerequisite is that a Wi-Fi connection is active. 

What sleep data is recorded and how?
We store the following data in the Cloud:
•    Email (as entered in the app)
•    Name (as entered in the app)
•    The phone’s location (so that the email can be sent in the correct language)
•    Snore data (parameterised in number of snores per quarter of an hour) -> With the current architecture/implementation, this data cannot be traced back to a user.
 

Anti-snore

How does the anti-snore feature work?
Snoring occurs due to a partial narrowing of the airway during sleep.
The constriction occurs because softer parts in your palate, such as your tongue, sag downwards when you sleep on your back. The Auping anti-snoring mode can help you reduce snoring in two ways.
The lift function tilts your body slightly forward so your airways are more open again, which stops you snoring. 

The nudge feature is a kind of position trainer that teaches you to not sleep on your back. When you lie on your back and snore, the bed gives you a slight nudge. This wakes you up so you turn onto your side. After a few weeks, you will automatically sleep less on your back and thus snore less. 

How long does the anti-snore feature stay raised?
Lift: 5 minutes
Nudge: goes down immediately after nudging the snorer

What is the angle of adjustment for the anti-snore feature? 
Lift: approx. 5 degrees depending on weight
Nudge: More acute. Just far enough so that the frame can move freely.
In both cases, the back section will go all the way down after the routine. So if someone sleeps with a partially adjusted back on purpose, for example, heartburn, this can work against them.

My bed lifts upward when the anti-snoring mode is activated
This is normal. If you selected the up function and the snore detection is activated, the bed will adjust upwards. This will help you breathe more freely.

Don't want the back section to rise when the anti-snoring mode is activated? Then try the ‘nudge’ setting instead of ‘lift’.
1. Go to the snore detection settings (via the snore icon in the upper right corner).
2. Select ‘nudge’ in the ‘anti-snore mode’.
3. The selected function is blue.
4. When activated, the back section now gives nudges.

The snore detection is not responding
Make sure you tapped start.
Check if any sound is being measured; there is a sound icon with a dB value below it displayed in the middle of the screen. If this is set to 0, no measurements will be taken. Close the app and restart it. If this does not work, restart the phone. 

Then check whether snoring is being measured. You can see how many snores were measured in the middle of the screen. By pressing a bar, you can see how many snores were measured. If this number is 0 or very low, the sensitivity is set too low.

Go to the snore detection settings (via the snore icon in the upper right corner) and check that the sensitivity of the snore detection is set correctly. The default setting is in the middle, but this is not sensitive enough for some devices. Try setting the button to high.

Go to the snore detection settings (via the snore icon in the upper right corner) and check that the timer is turned on. Use the slider to set the time at which the snore detection should begin. Most users fall asleep in about 20 minutes. When you start the snore detection you will see a timer on the screen that indicates how many minutes are left until the snore detection starts.

The snore detection responds too quickly
1. Go to the snore detection settings (via the snore icon in the upper right corner).
2. Check that the sensitivity of the snore detection is set correctly. The default setting is in the middle, but this is too sensitive for some devices. Try setting the button to low.

The wrong bed is responding
Check that the correct half of the bed is selected in the snore detection settings. The pillow icon in the app will indicate which half of the bed is left or right.

The snore detection responds to other sounds
We believe your privacy is paramount. Therefore, we will never hear or record any sounds in your bedroom and no data will be stored or used for other purposes. This means that other sounds may also activate the anti-snore mode.

Don’t start the snore detection until you go to sleep.
Prevent the anti-snore mode from responding to sounds before you fall asleep by using the timer. Most users fall asleep in about 20 minutes.
Decrease the sensitivity of the snore detection; go to the snore detection settings (via the snore icon in the upper right corner) and check that the sensitivity of the snore detection is set correctly. The default setting is in the middle, but this is too sensitive for some devices. Then try the 'low' setting.

Make sure that the phone is near your head and that your phone’s microphone is facing your head.
 

Smart alarm clock

How does the smart alarm clock functionality work?
After calibrating the bedroom noise level, the app detects whether the noise level in the bedroom exceeds the noise level set during calibration as from half an hour before the set alarm time when the alarm clock functionality has been set. If this happens, the back section is raised to wake the sleeper. 

Does the time of the alarm clock automatically adjust to daylight saving time like your mobile?
Yes, the time adjusts itself automatically.

Suppose you sleep at a position of 45 degrees because of acid reflux; will the alarm mode still work then? Will it still raise the bed? 
Yes. The alarm clock operates from the current motor position. It does not go to memory mode or anything. The motor is simply extended for x seconds.

What is the angle of adjustment for the smart alarm function? 
10 to 12 degrees depending on weight

My bed doesn’t go up when the alarm goes off 
1.    Go to the sleep planner.
2.    You should use the button every evening to turn on the silent alarm clock.
3.    Go to the sleep planner settings (via the alarm icon in the upper right corner).
4.    Check that the ‘Alarm with movement’ switch is on.
5.    Make sure that the correct bedside is selected.

My bed goes up when the alarm goes off 
1. Go to the sleep planner.
2. Go to the sleep planner settings (via the alarm icon in the upper right corner).
3. Check that the ‘Alarm with movement’ switch is on.
4. Make sure that the correct bedside is selected.

Other bedside goes up when waking up.  
1. Go to the sleep planner.
2. Go to the sleep planner settings (via the alarm icon in the upper right corner).
3. Check that the ‘Alarm with movement’ switch is on.
4. Make sure that the correct bedside is selected.
If the bedside is correctly selected but the wrong bed responds, reinstall your bed.

2. Select ‘Reconfigure bed settings’

Alarm with sound does not go off
1. Go to the sleep planner.
2. Go to the sleep planner settings (via the alarm icon in the upper right corner).
3. Check that the ‘Alarm with sound’ switch is on.
4. Make sure that the correct days are set.

Do you have iOS? Then make sure your phone is unmuted to be able to hear the Auping Connect app’s alarm.
Unfortunately, the Auping Connect app does not work in Apple’s ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode.

Do you have Android? The sound of the Auping Connect app can be set by setting the ring tone volume (‘Call’, not ‘Media’ or ‘Alarm’). The ringtone volume must not be set to zero.

The alarm goes off too early
1. Go to the sleep planner.
2. Go to the sleep planner settings (via the alarm icon in the upper right corner).
3. Check that the ‘Smart alarm’ switch is on.

This smart alarm wakes you while in your light sleep phase, within half an hour before your alarm time. 

The smart alarm does not go off
1. Go to the sleep planner.
2. Go to the sleep planner settings (via the alarm icon in the upper right corner).
3. Check that the ‘Smart alarm’ switch is on.

The smart alarm goes off too early
1. Go to the sleep planner.

Memory function

How does the memory function work?
The bed control measures the number of rotations of each motor.  Therefore, the control knows how far the motor has adjusted the bed surface and thus the position of your bed. This process takes place at every adjustment, so the control always knows where each bed surface is at any given time. It allows you to move from any bed position to any of the three memory modes.
The bed control keeps track of how many revolutions each motor makes and in which direction. When a memory is saved, these numbers are stored in a table.
The next time you want to go back to that position, the control knows exactly which way each motor should move and how far.
It’s important to note that small counting errors can occur in the memory mode. You will not notice this in normal use, as the motor is set to ‘0’ when the bed is level. However, if the bed is adjusted many times without levelling it, the accuracy will deteriorate until the bed has levelled out again.

Are the preferences in the app synchronised with the remote and vice versa?
Memory modes are identical on the remote and app. They do not need to be synchronised as they are on the CBU itself.
Each configuration has three memory modes: Hive, Drone, and synchronised. So for a double-bed combination, there are nine memory modes in total.
The app and the remote then only have to say:
“Drone, go to memory mode 3”
Or
“Sync, go to memory mode 1”
